Tip # 1 – Create A Back-End Offer

From a businessperson’s standpoint, a book is useless unless there’s a way to contact you. This is one mistake I see a lot of authors make. They seem to think they are just going to write a classic, and everyone is going to love it and seek them out. That’s not how it happens.

Make it easy for the reader to seek you out. Put something in the book to make them want to contact you. Put a free offer in the book that leads the reader from the book to your website.

Why is this important? As the author, you do not get a list of people who buy your book. The bookstore, Amazon or whoever sells your book gets the list. So if you do not have a mechanism to drive them from the book to your website, you may never have a chance to communicate with the reader again.

Tip # 2 – Create a Twitter Account For Your Book

I’m not saying you have to suddenly become a Twitter user if you don’t want to, but I am saying you should at least start a Twitter account based on your book.

I buy a lot of domains I don’t use just so that no one else can get at them. You should do this, for the same reason, with Twitter accounts for your book.

You can also set up your Twitter account to be updated automatically as you add to your blog and Facebook page. This way you are using it without actually using it.

Tip # 3 – Create A Series Of Seminars Or Workshops Based Around The topic Of Your Book

A blog based on the book you are releasing is one of the easiest ways to converse with your readers and potential readers.

Create a series of workshops or seminars based around the book. (These can be in-person or virtual events.) This is how you get additional back-end clients and make more money from your book. A book is a lead generator. It has to lead to something bigger.

To make actual money with a book is very, very, very difficult unless you sell a huge amount of books, and even then you only make a small amount per book sold.

By offering events that are themed around the topic of your book, you will be able to get the reader excited enough to pay you money to attend the event. Then, if you offer something at the event itself, you have another opportunity to make even more money.

The key is to have multiple ways to make more money off the same reader. Putting together an event based around the material in your book is a great way to do just that.

Tip # 4 – Buy Ads Leading Up To the Launch Of Your Book

You should buy ads advertising my book is coming out on a specific date. The reason why you should do that is you want to build up anticipation for the book. You don’t want to just come out of the gate and say, “Here’s my book. Come buy it!”

You want to build up anticipation. You want people to get excited about the book and lining up to buy it on the launch date.

Dan Brown has sold a bunch of books. He is the author of The Da Vinci Code. When he launched his follow up book, The Lost Symbol, it was advertised for months and months in advance of the actual release.

The website was up for at least three months prior to the book being available, and they were advertising for people to go to the website and play a game in order to figure out what this lost symbol was.

By getting people to interact with his website and getting them excited about the book release, The Symbol went to number one almost as soon as it was released.
