The Why & What of Book Writing

I want to make sure that before you sit down and write a book, you are doing it for the correct reason.

For instance, if you’re writing a book to get rich—forget it! It’s not going to happen. I’m here as the voice of truth. There are tens of thousands, maybe even hundreds of thousands of people who are writing a book to gain credibility…it’s not going to happen. People have to read your book before there’s even a chance of you gaining credibility from it.

A friend of mine had a course on teaching people how to write a book. He claimed that you write a book in order to use it as your personal business card. He said that when you hand a person a book you’ve written, they’re going to be impressed by the fact that you wrote a book. Has that ever happened to you? Has someone given you a book instead of a business card? I receive one or two of

these at almost every seminar I attend around the world. Do you know how many of these books I’ve read or even looked at again? Very few, and those that I did read I never finished. How about you? How many have your read? So, it’s not a personal business card if no one reads it or even looks at it again.

Before you write you need to sit back and think about your reasons for doing it. If your reason is to get a message out, great! Get your knowledge out? Fantastic. If the reason is for your own self worth, go for it! If your reason for writing it is to use the book as a marketing tool or branding tool which in turn will help you make money? Without question these are the great reasons for writing a book.
