“I’m here to tell you—you gotta hustle to make it big. The fact is you need to work in order to get something going.”
Armand Morin
Do you think the word “hustle” has bad connotations? Some people use it to refer to people who swindle other people (i.e., the movie). Other people think of it as working hard. We all know of people who want the lifestyle of the rich, but they don’t want to “hustle” in order to achieve it.
I’m here to tell you—you gotta hustle to make it big. The fact is you need to work in order to get something going.
I’ve been working this “easy” internet business for 25 years. It’s hard to believe I’ve been full-time on the internet for a quarter of a century making a tremendous living and doing things other people only dream of doing. I’ve been able travel around the world with my family and friends.
I had to hustle to get to this point. You need to put your whole self into the effort. When I was young, my dad would tell me, “Never do a half-assed job.” At the time I didn’t know what he meant, but I did figure it out.
You don’t want to go halfway in. You want to go all the way in and put your heart and your soul into it. I think the only time that you can ever really honestly do that is if you own your own company. When you own your own company, you care more because you’re the one in charge, and whether it succeeds or whether it fails, it is totally 100% up to you.

And yes, there are times that you have to work beyond a five day, nine-to-five range. In fact, if you look at most successful people out there, you’ll see they work at crazy hours. Some people love getting up early and getting a lot of work done in the morning. Other people like working into the evening and sometimes we need to do a little bit of both. I mean, there have been times in my life where I’ve worked all the way through the night for many, many years. I did that in order to get where I needed to be.
The reality is, to build something great, you have to be willing to hustle. Don’t be afraid of the hard work. Don’t be afraid of doing the research. I will stay up late and will continue staying up until I get answers to the things that I need to know. What that allows me to do is get further than most other people. When needed, I’m willing to put more time and more effort to get things done.
I train in Taekwondo, and I compete competitively all around the world. This morning I had a horrible workout. It started out fine and I felt good except as it got to the end of my workout, I got to the point where your body starts giving out and mentally you want to quit.
Your brain says, “Dude, you just need to quit.” And then another part of your brain says, “Dude, this is the time you got to move. This is the time you’ve got to push. This is the time you’ve got to move beyond wherever it is that you are right now.” You know what? I somehow made it through.
It’s not going to be a piece of cake. The fact is, is that you have to hustle. Enjoy the journey—enjoy the building of a product, a service, an idea, as much as the fruition of it. You got this!
