What Does It Mean To Be “The Authority”?
In this day and age, it’s easier than ever before to be labeled an expert or guru, but to become “the” authority, you have to do something to separate yourself from everyone else.
“The” authority lives on a higher plane—he/she’s the person at the top, if you will. You want to be that person. You want to be the authority.
It is extremely important you do something to differentiate yourself from your competitors. You want to stand out in a crowded marketplace. We hear it in every business in every market. It’s like a mantra touted over and over. Differentiation has become the focus of many sales, marketing, and branding experts.
Establish A Position Of Control
Nonetheless, it rings true for anyone who wants to establish a position of control. Technology has created an incredible opportunity for anyone to become an expert. That same technology has created an incredible problem: anyone can become an expert.
Blogs, Facebook, and Twitter have all provided avenues to share information quickly over the Internet. Thus, more and more experts are popping up every day. It seems almost anyone with a computer and an Internet connection can instantly be elevated to the position of expert.
Are they experts, or are they simply sharing similar content under the cover of well-designed websites and information products that contain regurgitated information?
Be The “Real” Expert
As the real expert, you have to separate yourself from all of the pseudo competition. Pseudo or not, it’s still competition, and you have to overcome that.
So, how do you do it? How do you stand out in a crowded world, full of people saying they know more than you do and fighting to impress the same market you are targeting? It’s really quite simple. Continue to create incredible information, but do it in a format that allows you to shine.
That format is a physical book. It allows you to rise above competition, but also elevates your status higher than an expert.
Experts are experts and gurus are gurus, but being the authority gives you dominion over both. It’s time to clear your mind from what you’ve been told about becoming an expert and open yourself up to the new idea of establishing true authority.
Motivate – Educate – Activate
There are three components in any successful information piece, whether it’s a book, coaching material, seminar, or any other learning delivery system; you must motivate, educate, and activate. And those three things are exactly what you want to do as an authority.
You should motivate your audience to move. Encourage them to better themselves; create in them the desire to use your information to further themselves on their journey to success.
You should educate them. Give the information they need to get ahead. You might teach them new material they never knew before, or you might confirm certain information they may have already learned is accurate. Sometimes confirming old stuff is just as important as teaching new stuff.
Finally, you should activate your readers. Make them use your information right away. Don’t let them delay; you want them to act fast and act often. Give them steps to take, encourage them to interact with your website, or challenge them to put a plan together, but be sure they do it in that moment.
