Productivity – Your Environment

It’s a known fact that if you are comfortable, you get more accomplished. I need a particular environment in order to become productive. I’m not just talking about temperature… I need my desk organized with things placed around me in a fashion that makes it easy for me to touch, easy for me to grab, easy for me to access without having to struggle or think about it.

I need my desk organized with things placed around me in a fashion that makes it easy for me to touch, easy for me to grab, easy for me to access without having to struggle or think about it.

The starting and stopping to reach things or find things really puts me off. It’s more than the time wasted looking for the object, it’s also the derailing of my thoughts and then getting them back on track. A couple of seconds task can throw me off for a couple of minutes.

This adds up when you do it multiple times a day. And, some tasks could burn up a couple of hours as you get things arranged in order to use them.

I have found that the harder it is for me to access what I need, the less likely I am to do the task. I believe this is true for most people.

Let’s think about the environment that immediately surrounds you when you are trying to get work accomplished.
